Year 3

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It was a very different term for all as we zoomed our lessons from home for the first eight weeks of term two. We would like to congratulate all our year three students for putting in the extra effort and learning how to Zoom in such a short period of time. Our students were eager, every morning and afternoon, to join in the sessions and complete and upload their work.

In English, students have been focusing on persuasive writing, looking at how to structure arguments and justify opinions on topics. Students wrote a variety of expositions on our online platform, MyEd. Through our Zoom sessions, students discussed the topic with one another and then decided if they agreed or disagreed with the writer before determining if their opinion was influenced by the arguments presented.

In Mathematics, students have been looking at addition, subtraction, money and measurement. Students created rules for number patterns and sequences, and identified missing numbers based on function machine rules. Students estimated, measured and compared lengths in centimeters and investigated the area of given objects using square centimetres and square metres. Students also looked at choosing appropriate written subtraction strategies such as the number line strategy and column subtraction to solve subtraction problems. They compared and classified angles in shapes and the environment in relation to a right angle.

For integrated studies, students have been focusing on Geography. We have been learning about Australia’s historical geography. Students labelled the States and Territories, and read up on the natural features of Australia as well as the history of Aboriginal nations and territory groups in Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands. They completed various mapping activities in class where they have identified Australia’s geographical features including both natural and man-made landmarks.

For physical education, students uploaded videos of themselves attempting different activities and skills. We would like thank all our students for their great effort and hard work. Uploading videos was a big ask and most of our students put in 100% effort. We would also like to thank our parents and guardians for their continued support of their children’s learning.

Wishing everyone a safe holiday,

Ms Cilek and Ms Gocmen
